IST has engineered a unique vapor deposited Super-Hydrophobic / Oleophobic nano-coating called RepellixTM. Super-hydrophobic properties are like “Water off a Duck’s Back” in which droplets literally bounce off the surface.
An example for the use of RepellixTM is in hearing applications in which small medical devices are constantly being exposed to moisture (sweat) and cerium (ear-wax). The specially engineered oleophobic property of the nano-coating protects the devices from corrosion and ear-wax ingress into small audio canals.
The RepellixTM coating was developed under a National Science Foundation SBIR Phase-I,II,IIB starting in 2010. Its unique nano-structure is patented.
